"This is truly the application of the 'Digital Transformation' concept to the reality of Dentistry in the country"
Digital Transformation continues to reach all clinics of the OralMED Saúde Group. This process is taking place throughout the year and represents a structural change for the largest Portuguese group specialized in Dentistry.
"Technology has always played a strategic role in the group. And now we are taking the next step, in a direction that we believe all companies should follow and that several sectors are already embracing," explained Eduardo Farias, Director of Information Systems at OralMED Saúde Group.
More than just a digital administrative tool, the OralMED Management System (SGO) allows for the incorporation of management strategies that take into account available resources, using them to optimize the productivity of all clinical teams and make their operations more sustainable.
From operational sustainability to environmental and social sustainability
"It's not just about digitizing clinics. It's truly about applying the concept of 'Digital Transformation' to the reality of Dentistry in the country. This will allow us, among many other things, to have total organizational transparency with real-time access to all information from over 60 units spread across the country. All of this enables decision-making based on consolidated data and even more rigorous quality control of our services," continued the Director of Information Systems, responsible for creating and developing the SGO.
"Moreover, the environmental impacts of this transformation will also be very significant. The SGO will allow us to transform our clinics into the first paper-free Dental Medicine units, for example. We created this program not only for the clear benefits of integrating and centralizing data fundamental to our operations but, mainly, because Digital Transformation is a path with a profound impact on society. For us, the value of implementing this system in the group's clinics is clear."
Breaking down obstacles to reach innovation
According to the concept, Digital Transformation is the next step after digitization. It's an evolution with profound repercussions for companies. But it doesn't come without challenges.
"We are not just making our clinical units digital. We are creating opportunities for change and growth. And this involves adapting our culture to the new technological reality. It involves changing behaviors to fit into this new, more sustainable management," Eduardo Farias continued to explain. "But this is only possible while simultaneously respecting the needs of all employees, always considering the user experience throughout the process. That's why we started with a pilot clinic and developed the system as we received feedback from the team. Digital Transformation is only possible if it's a joint construction process. It's an approach, a concept, centered on people. And it's the people, our employees, our Patients, who are at the center of our strategy. This is what allowed for the creation, and is allowing for the effective implementation, of the SGO."
Digital Transformation is not something that ends. It's a journey that we must continue to travel, always with the possibility of continuing to innovate and evolve.
The importance of Digital Transformation in Healthcare
For the Director of Information Systems of the largest Portuguese group specialized in Dentistry, Digital Transformation gains increased importance in Healthcare because "it not only allows for more efficient patient care, but also allows for the creation of policies to raise awareness among professionals about the humanization of care. Especially when we're talking about a group that welcomes more than 3,000 Patients per day, six days a week, and has the level of geographical dispersion of the OralMED Saúde Group."
The path to a technological horizon with infinite possibilities
Based on a Business Intelligence strategy, the SGO opens up a universe of possibilities for the integration of new systems, according to Eduardo Farias.
For now, the migration of all OralMED Dental Medicine clinics to the SGO is expected to continue throughout 2022. The stages of training and adaptation of clinical teams, and their respective support areas, to the new system are already underway.
"Given the versatility of the system, which was built internally in Outsystems, we cannot consider that the process will ever be fully completed. Digital Transformation is not something that ends. It's a journey that we must continue to travel, always with the possibility of continuing to innovate and evolve. It was with this in mind that the new system was developed," concluded Eduardo Farias.
