The OralMED Barreiro clinic has been supporting the "À Beira Tejo" Insertion Community, helping young people who receive social support from this association to recover their Oral Health and confidence in their Smile.
Social sustainability is an increasingly important topic nowadays. And it's part of the priorities of the OralMED Health Group. That's why at the end of 2020, OralMED Dental Medicine clinics launched the OralMED Solidarity initiative. They provided dental treatments to 50 Portuguese Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). The "À Beira Tejo" Insertion Community was one of the institutions identified by the Portuguese Dental Medicine group to receive a donation in the form of dental treatments.
OralMED Solidarity supports "À Beira Tejo" insertion community
"The Barreiro unit has always been very active in the community. In the case of the support given to the "À Beira Tejo" Insertion Community, it has been very rewarding to be able to help the young people identified by the association and to monitor the impact these treatments have on their lives. More than just treating, we have also developed awareness work for problem prevention and oral health maintenance," explained Beatriz Gonçalves, coordinator of the OralMED Barreiro clinic. "Every day we work to give Smiles back to our Patients. And no Smile leaves us indifferent. But the case of these young people has been very special for us."
For the "À Beira Tejo" Insertion Community association and for the young people who benefited from the treatments and follow-up by OralMED Dental teams, this support had a very important impact. An impact that went beyond the dimension of Oral Health and reinforces the social importance of these initiatives, as stated by a representative of the institution:
"Throughout the treatment process and consultations, the young people showed confidence and awareness of the opportunity provided to them by OralMED clinics, in terms of access to differentiated clinical care, which promotes their Health, not only in the short term but also in the long term. These consultations reinforced the adoption of proper oral hygiene practices and had an impact on the image and self-esteem of the young people, who adhered to the outlined treatment without any anxiety or resistance, quickly becoming aware of the gains obtained from the treatment results, which translated into better well-being and comfort in terms of their Oral Health."
Regarding the work developed by OralMED Solidarity, Dr. Francisco Galhana, who led the case of the young people treated at the OralMED Barreiro clinic, highlights the social weight of this type of initiative: "Thanks to the solidarity of this OralMED team, it has been possible to contribute and have a positive impact on the Oral Health of these people, often limited by scarcer financial resources. By putting into practice OralMED values and the maxim of doing the best for all those who need and seek us, we have managed to give back the smile and the will to smile, working on oral health awareness and motivation for prevention."
