OralMED Health Group is the "land of professional opportunities" in Dentistry
Over the past two years, the resilience of all OralMED Health Group employees has been put to the test due to the pandemic. This was all because of the impacts that COVID-19 had on the Dental sector, requiring extra effort and dedication from employees.
This effort has been recognized by the Portuguese group, the largest employer in Dentistry in the country. It has resulted in more than 50 promotions to leadership and management positions between 2020 and 2022, 95% of which were awarded to women.
Female professionalism, without quotas
41.5% of a total of 2.8 million jobs in Portugal are occupied by women. But only 27% of these women hold leadership positions. These figures come from the most recent study "Gender Diversity in Companies in Portugal" by Informa D&B. They reveal a scenario of great gender disparity in the business world. A trend that the OralMED Health Group has always countered.
"We don't need quotas to recognize professionalism. For over 12 years, since the group's foundation, our priority has been to recruit the best professionals, both in terms of their technical skills and their soft skills. And to make them grow internally by offering a multiplicity of functional and geographical experiences that develop them professionally and complete them. This allows them to take on additional responsibilities. When we analyze national data, we realize that we represent a business minority in Portugal that is not concerned with having a minimum number of women in leadership and management positions. What concerns us is giving due merit to those who truly deserve it. And the 55 women promoted reflect the quality of our services. They are leaders who had to be given the opportunity to lead. And we couldn't be more proud and satisfied with their journey," stated Isabel Magalhães, Human Resources Director of the OralMED Health Group.
Professionals who grow in a group that grows with them
In total, 58 employees were promoted in the last two years, even with the difficult economic and social situation. This doesn't count experiential transformations that come from lateral functional or geographical movements to fuel future internal growth. And, with the group's growth, new promotions are expected in the medium term.
"When we grow, when we expand, and we need to form new teams, new opportunities open up in leadership positions. And we like to look within the group when these opportunities arise. We believe we are better when we grow together. And we value those who have been with us longer and who perform their duties admirably, whether in their tasks or in the support they give to teams. We recognize so much talent in our employees that it makes perfect sense for us to accompany them in their professional progression. It's a policy we've always had and will continue to promote," explained Isabel Magalhães.
"The Land of professional opportunities" in Dentistry
Currently, the OralMED Health Group is the largest employer in the Dentistry sector in Portugal. It continues to create numerous professional opportunities throughout the country and integrates into local communities.
"At the OralMED Health Group, our Mission is to democratize access to contemporary Dentistry. We break down the barriers that prevent people from getting treatment, in a country that still turns its back on Oral Health. For this, we realize that it's necessary to leave urban centers and reach populations that don't have access to these types of services. This allows us, on one hand, to help more Patients with Oral Health needs. And, on the other, to create new job opportunities in locations where there is little offer in this sector. At the same time, our geographical dispersion and the way clinical procedures are standardized gives our professionals the freedom to move to a clinical unit in another region, whenever possible and necessary," declared the Human Resources Director of the Portuguese group.
"For us, it's not just important to create more professional opportunities. Wherever our clinical units are, we want to work with the people who breathe that air, who walk those streets. We want to offer them opportunities to develop. And if one day they want to breathe other airs, walk other streets, we want to give them the security of knowing they can do it with us. In Health, when it comes to patient care, telework is not an option. But here we offer the possibility for each of our employees to work as close to their residence as possible, closer to their families. To frame their professional and personal dimension in a more harmonious and productive way. It's essential to offer our employees the possibility of feeling fulfilled. Not only in what they do, but also in where they work. We want to help them develop their skills. In essence, we want to always continue to be the 'Land of professional opportunities' in Dentistry, wherever we are in the country," concluded Isabel Magalhães.
The largest creator of professional opportunities for Dentists in the country
According to data from the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD), in Portugal there is one Dentist for about 1053 inhabitants. This ratio is much higher than recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), which recommends one professional for every 1500 to 2000 inhabitants. This causes problems in terms of professional opportunities for the class in the country.
The OralMED Health Group combats this reality as it is the main creator of professional opportunities for Dentists in Portugal. Especially in locations where there are shortages in Dental services. And where the average ratios of Dentists per capita are much lower than those recommended by WHO, such as in the Porto Metropolitan Area or the Coimbra Region, where there are currently a total of 14 OralMED Dental Medicine clinical units.
It is also one of the main responsible for the continuous training of these highly qualified professionals in their clinical practice. Not only through the continuous creation of opportunities to exercise their professional activity in the OralMED Health Group's own clinics. But also through the possibility of developing their skills, thanks to contact with multidisciplinary teams of Dentists, who work in all areas of Dentistry.
With the expansion of the group, the creation of at least 60 new professional opportunities for Dentists throughout the country is expected.
